KUALA LUMPUR: The government has rehabilitated 190 abandoned private housing projects in Peninsula Malaysia since 2009 which benefitted 34,451 house buyers.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said there were 253 abandoned private housing projects in the peninsular between 2009 and July 28 this year.
Of the number, 190 had been completed, 15 in various stages of rehabilitation and 48 being planned for rehabilitation, he said at the Dewan Rakyat here today.
He was responding to Datuk Normala Abdul Samad (BN-Pasir Gudang) who had asked about the number of abandoned projects and funds utilised by the ministry to rehabilitate them, and for a project to be categorised as abandoned.
The minister said the government spent RM219.54 million to rehabilitate 32 projects alone.
According to him, a housing project could be categorised as abandoned if it was not completed within the period stated in the higher purchase agreement and continuous absence of activities at the construction site for six months, or the developer had made it known that it could not continue with the project. — Bernama
