MALACCA: Metro IVF Sdn Bhd (Metro IVF) offers an affordable In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), namely Permata IVF, for less than RM10,000 for couples who intend to undergo fertility treatment after a medical review by a fertility consultant.
The company, which provides IVF treatment to married couples through Assisted Reproductive Technology, said the cost for IVF in Malaysia varied from RM15,000 to RM20,000 per cycle depending on medical treatment and medical equipment, that is around two-third of the household income for some couples, and added that it was determined to make the treatment more affordable for Malaysians.
"We do understand that the cost is the constraining factor for most couples who are trying to conceive after one year of marriage and couples under 35 years old. Hence, we introduced Permata IVF that uses less drug and minimal supervision from the doctor with follow-up made by our counsellors.
"Successful cases have been recorded and patients are happy with their newborn babies that bought bundles of joy in their life," the company said in a statement to Bernama.
Metro IVF said the thought of seeking fertility treatment is often associated with anxiety and uncertainty to many people, thus to address these issues Metro IVF have a strong team of doctors, nurses, scientists and counsellors who are well-trained and experienced to assist our fertility patients at every stretch of their journey.
The statement said the Metro IVF team will provide proper counselling and medical advice before, during and after the procedure. After patients have decided to undergo the IVF process, a series of procedures begins under the supervision of a fertility specialist.
"A counsellor will be assigned to each couple to guide them through the process. The entire IVF process will be completed within five to seven weeks. The first step involves ovarian stimulation using hormone injection with the aim of harvesting five to 15 matured eggs.
"Then, the eggs are retrieved from the ovaries. The next step would be to fertilise the eggs with the sperm using the ICSI technique whereby the fertilised eggs are cultured for 48 to 72 hours. This is followed by the transfer of the resulting embryos into the uterus. One or two embryos will be transferred each time. Two weeks after the embryo transfer, a blood test will be done to confirm your pregnancy," said the company.
It said that currently, Metro IVF had IVF centres in Puchong and Klang, in Selangor, with a combined capacity of 1,000 IVF cycles annually. The Puchong centre opened this year, and has a capacity of 600 IVF cycles annually.
Metro IVF, established in 1999, said it's Klang IVF centre was established as the first fertility centre in Klang with first IVF baby delivered in the year 2000.
"Metro IVF currently is supported by a network of five clinics nationwide, with the headquarters located in downtown Klang. Metro IVF is also one of the pioneer IVF centres in Malaysia and deploys the latest IVF technologies and highly trained IVF professionals to produce a world-class success rate.
"To expand accessibility to a wider community, Metro IVF has been collaborating with public and private healthcare institutions such as the UiTM Private Specialist Centre and Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah," the company said.
According to the statement, one of the Metro IVF collaborations, namely with Klinik Pakar Wanita Mey here, is timely as Metro IVF is receiving patients from the southern region and Singapore, and the company registered double-digit growth from the region this year.
"Malacca is one of the states in Malaysia that is rich in cultural heritage. Thus, it is an ideal location for health tourism in the region," said the statement.
Speaking about future plans, the company said it intended to expand to major cities nationwide and regionally, adding that as IVF is one of the five treatments that medical tourists seek in Malaysia, capacity building is vital to the Metro IVF growth.
Metro IVF envisions the establishment of a centre of excellence for high-end IVF services with the most advanced IVF technology, equipment and best talents that will meet the nation's expectation of developing a successful and sustainable medical tourism.
"We hope to be the most trusted brand in IVF services in Malaysia as well as globally. Besides developing the centre of excellence in IVF service, we are also working to develop low-cost IVF technology so that IVF is accessible to all infertile and sub-fertile couples in the next decade," said the company. — Bernama
