The great collaborator

ROBIN Schulz, 30, became a big name in the dance music scene in 2014 when he released Waves (featuring vocals by Mr Probz).
A remix version of the track was also nominated for a Grammy Award.
This German musician, deejay and record producer has not looked back since, but has even produced more chart hits, with Prayer in C, a remix of the Lilly Wood and the Prick track, and Sugar, featuring Francesco Yates.

He even collaborated with David Guetta and Cheat Codes on his track Shed a Light.
Earlier this year, Schulz released a 90-minute film on himself, titled Robin Schulz – The Movie (available for viewing on YouTube).
This documentary-style film follows his life after the success of his first album Prayer, and also features designs from his own fashion line. The movie also features interviews with acclaimed music producers.
Schulz also has been busy in the studio, with his latest collaboration with James Blunt on the song OK earning him rave reviews.
This track is featured in Schulz's latest album, Uncovered (right).
In an email interview organised by Warner Music Malaysia, Schultz answers some questions about his work.
What was it like collaborating with James Blunt on OK?
"Oh, I love James, besides the fact that he is just a great musician and wonderful singer, he is [also a] great lad with tons of humour!"
How do collaborations work for you?
"It differs. Sometimes I write and record a sound idea. Sometimes you sit with someone in one room and write together. Sometimes someone [writes] a great song and sends it to you. Everything is possible!"
How do you decide who you want to collaborate with? What kind of artistes do you naturally gravitate towards?
"Most of the collaborations happen very naturally. You meet someone, you like him, and you decide to work together. For vocals, sometimes my manager has ideas, or my record label, Warner, will suggest a name."
Most of your songs feature guitar riffs. What is it about this instrument that inspired you to place it so prominently in your music?
"To be honest, I have no idea! In the beginning, it just fit to the music I remixed. There are not too many guitar riffs on the new album, though."
What was the intention behind Robin Schulz – The Movie? Was it to show your musical evolution, or merely a marketing tool for your clothing line?
"No, we always wanted to do a documentary but it's been on our back burner. It took over one year to do this. There was no special reason to do it, it came to our mind, and one day we decided to actually do it."
