Journalists should conduct research before asking questions: Kit Siang

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran opposition lawmaker Lim Kit Siang (Gelang Patah - DAP) lashed out at journalists following queries on his origins.
The DAP supremo said journalists should conduct their research on the internet before asking questions.
"I don't want to answer the question. I feel the reporter needs to go through a test. Are they prepared to make basic checks or not?
"I was a reporter before, when I was a reporter and when there is trash news, I will investigate ... So investigate first before you ask questions," Lim said during a press conference at the Dewan Rakyat.
Journalists had queried Lim following claims by Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin Malaysia president Ramesh Rao, on the former's place of origin.
This was based on a discrepancy he found on Wikipedia which Ramesh claims was removed.
The issue was brought up by Ramesh, shortly after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made a remark about the lineage of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Lim also lectured journalists on checking their facts first before writing on their subject.
"Investigate first before you ask questions, otherwise it would reflect badly on you and your organisation," he said.
