Engineering graduate resorts to cleaning houses

AN engineering graduate is cleaning houses for a living after failing to land a job in a related field. Siti Nursyazalina Zailani, 26, has been working for house cleaning agency, Maideasy, for almost a year.
Siti said she had to swallow her pride and take the job to support herself in Kuala Lumpur, according to a report in The Malaysian Insight yesterday.
"I didn't have time to be picky because I came from Ipoh to look for work and help my mother, who is single," said the graduate, who is the oldest of five siblings.
"If I work eight hours a day, five days a week, I can get about the same salary as other fresh graduates."
Siti was introduced to this house cleaning agency by her sister, who is an accounting student. She took the job to help her mother support the rest of her siblings, some of whom are still schooling.
Her sister was also working as a house cleaner. The two sisters said they are not ashamed of taking up the blue-collar job, normally associated with foreign workers.
