JITRA: The father of a four-year-old girl who was believed to have been abused while under his care, has been remanded.
Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said police obtained a seven-day remand order from today to facilitate investigations under the Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
"The suspect, who is also a civil service retiree, surrendered himself at the Jitra police station at 1pm yesterday," he said when contacted by Bernama.
Yesterday, Bernama reported that the girl was believed to have been abused after a doctor found old scars and superficial ulcers on the entire upper body during treatment.
Initially, the girl was taken to see the doctor by her 25-year-old mother after she suffered from cough and fever.
It was also reported that the girl was under the care of her father in Changlun after her parents decided to live separately from December last year, due to marital problems. — Bernama
