MMEA detains 10 crew onboard cargo vessel in Miri waters

MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained 10 crew members of a cargo vessel in an operation dubbed "Operasi Permai" about 9.5 nautical miles off Bakam near here, last Wednesday.
Miri MMEA director Maritime Capt Mohamad Fauzi Othman said in the 10.27pm operation, the Tuong King II vessel, – laden with six heavy vehicles, two four-wheel drive vehicles, a Toyota Camry car, a Myvi car and empty bottles of alcoholic beverages – was suspected of having doubtful shipping documents.
All the 10 crew members, aged between 19 and 58, comprised five Malaysians, three Indian nationals and two Indonesians, he said in a statement here today.
The seamen were being detained to facilitate investigations under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952/1960 and Customs Act 1967, he added. — Bernama
