Usim deputy vice chancellor named recipient of Asia Education excellence award
NILAI: Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim) deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Zulkiple Abd Ghani was named the recipient of the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education' at the 8th Asia's Education Excellence Award presentation ceremony at Le Meridien Sentosa in Singapore yesterday.
A statement issued by USIM's Strategic Communication Centre (StraComm), Dr Zulkiple, 53, was nominated for his outstanding achievements in terms of leadership, innovations, academic performance and being a role model.
Apart from winning a royal scholarship in 1986, Dr Zulkiple won a gold medal at the 23rd International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition' (iTEX 12), silver medal at the Islamic Innovation Expo (i-Inova) 2012 and a gold medal for the UKM Research Poster competition in 2005 and 2006.
He was on the panel of assessors for the National Academic Award (AAN), evaluator for Ministry of Higher Education's research grants, a panelist in the Islamic Consultative Council (MPI) and was National Dakwah Policy Cluster chairman.
For his contributions and active involvement, he was awarded UKM's Outstanding Service Awards in 2000 and 2006, Outstanding Lecturer for Social Sciences Award in 2002, Special Outstanding Service Award in 2013, Research Award (Social Sciences Category, Best Researcher) in 2013, and Community Engagement Award (Project Category) in 2013.
In USIM, Dr Zulkiple was a member of the board of directors (2012-2015), dean of Leadership and Management Faculty (2012-2015), head of Research Cluster (Jawhar 'Ulum Islamiyyah and Ummah Development), and the chief editor of 'Ulum Islamiyya Journal.
He had also written 24 books and contributed 32 articles in international and local journals. the statement added. — Bernama
