Woman loses handbag in smash and grab

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 28-year-old housewife lost her handbag after two men smashed her car window and took her belongings placed on the passenger seat. The robbery happened at a traffic light in Jalan Permatang Pauh here today.
Central Seberang Prai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the woman had a rude shock when the snatch thieves smashed her car window in front of a traffic light around 1pm.
He said the woman was on her way home in Permatang Pauh before the unfortunate incident occurred.
He said victim's bag with her personal identification documents, RM550 cash, a mobile phone and few documents was taken. She has lodged a police report.
Nik Ros Azhan revealed the woman did not sustain any visible injuries during the incident adding that the victim was assisted by members of the public.
"We recorded victim's statement and are hunting down the suspects" he said in a media statement.
The case has been classified as gang robbery under Penal Code.
