JOHOR BARU: Five years of waiting to own her own house finally paid off for an engineer who was among the lucky recipients of a "Rumah Mampu Milik Johor" (RMMJ) (Johor Affordable Housing Scheme) recently.
Public Works Department staff Shafiqah Rahman, 29, regarded herself as lucky after being selected in the RMMJ balloting which was performed by Johor Mentri Besar Johor Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
"I am thankful my dream to own my own home is finally achieved. Thank you to the government for helping to ease the burden of the people like us to own our own homes," she told Bernama when met recently.
Shafiqah, who was in a wheelchair as she was in confinement after just delivering her first child, was accompanied by her husband.
Meanwhile, Thu Kok Yong who worked as a clerk in Singapore, was impatient to move into her own house after her name was announced as one of the recipients of RMMJ.
The 40-year-old Thu, who is currently renting a room in Singapore for S$300 (RM943) a month, gushed her appreciation to the government for implementing the RMMJ project to give the opportunity to the people to own their own houses.
R. Mariamaah, 29,  attended the event just to have a look and try her luck but did not harbour any hope of owning her own home from the scheme as she realised many had applied.
"I did not expect to be picked as a recipient from the scheme as it did not occur to me that I will be lucky like this. I waited almost five years to get a house and thank the government for the opportunity given," she said.
During the RMMJ draw, 300 lucky people received their keys from the mentri besar for 300 units of cluster houses valued from RM150,000 to RM206,000 each. — Bernama
