PETALING JAYA: Gerakan will become just a name in history if it loses three general elections in a row.
Noting this, party president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong (pix) said Gerakan is determined to make a comeback in the 14th general election.
"We cannot afford to lose three times in a row. We must be relevant to the members and the people.
"If we lose again in the next round, we will become a name in history," he told party members attending the Selangor delegates meeting today.
Mah said Gerakan must ensure that it retains its previous seats and work hard in the Barisan Nasional spirit.
He said the Selangor state delegates meeting today is a crucial one as it is the last one ahead of the next general election.
Pointing out BN's victories in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections last year, Mah said although Gerakan did not contest the seats, it had successfully reached out to the community and voters in the constituencies.
"We do not want to become just a name or day in history. We must win.
"There will be another (election) 'tsunami' but it can work both ways," he said.
Mah said the past two general elections in 2008 and 2013 had both taught the party many lessons.
"Especially in using the social media and cyberspace.
"We are much better equipped with the knowledge and skills to use the internet to reach out to the people and communicate with them," he said.
Confident and optimistic in making a comeback in the next general election, Mah said with the over 20,000 party members in the state Gerakan will ensure than BN regains Selangor.
He also reiterated that based on Gerakan's study on the ground sentiments, the Chinese community's support for BN has increased to a healthy level, notably after the two by-elections.
Selangor Gerakan chief David Ang Chin Tat said one of the strategies the Selangor delegates will focus on is to reach out to the outstation voters residing in the Klang Valley to be able to engage them with the government's transformation plans.
