No doubt Mahathir tried to remove Najib: Hishammuddin

PETALING JAYA: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein claimed there was no doubt that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was the one who had planned to remove Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Hishammuddin was responding to the former prime minister's recent allegations that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had schemed to force Najib out of office two years ago.
Hishammuddin also defended Ahmad Zahid against Mahathir's remark.
"I have no doubt at all that the person who wanted to topple the prime minister is Tun Mahathir. Datuk Seri Zahid is the latest victim of (Mahathir's) scathing attack on (Umno) leaders.
"I believe that I am the next target, followed by other Cabinet ministers, to be attacked by him," Hishammuddin told a press conference after opening the Kangar Umno division delegates meeting at Dewan Wawasan 2020 here today.
Present were Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man and former mentri besar Datuk Seri Md Isa Sabu.
Hishammuddin said the attacks against Zahid and other Umno leaders were expected, as Mahathir wishes to cause a split in the party leadership in the lead-up to the general election.
"I wish to stress that it will not work. All three of us (Najib, Zahid and himself) have a very strong relationship. The line has been drawn that this is our team and we will not be torn apart by attacks from outside," he added.
