Four men killed in road crash in Rantau Panjang

PASIR MAS: Four men, including three believed to be Myanmar nationals, were killed when the car they were travelling in crashed into a lamp post in Kampung Batu Karang, Rantau Panjang here today.
Pasir Mas district police chief ACP Ibrahim Saad said another passenger in the car, also believed to be a Myanmar national, was seriously injured in the crash which occurred about 4.15am.
He said the crash occurred when the car driver, Muhammad Khairul Anam Mohd Shargawi, 26, who is a local, was believed to have lost control of the wheel, causing the vehicle to skid and crash into the lamp post.
Muhammad Khairul Anam sustained serious head injury and died at the Emergency Unit of Pasir Mas Hospital, where the injured passenger was also sent for treatment, he said when contacted here.
He said the driver and his passengers, aged between 20 and 33, were on their way from Kota Baru to Rantau Panjang when the mishap occurred.
Firemen took more than half an hour to extricate the victims from the wrecked car, he said, adding that police had yet to ascertain the identity of the foreigners.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Khairul Anam's mother, Che Rohani Mohd Fathil, 58, said his son, the ninth of 12 siblings left the house about midnight after one of the Myanmar nationals sought his help to send them to Rantau Panjang.
"I knew about the crash about 5am today when the Pasir Mas Hospital called to inform that my son was involved in a road crash and was in critical condition," she said. — Bernama
