KUALA LUMPUR: Members of the public who want to book a taxi will now find it an easy ride with the new application, PicknGo.
The application not only makes it easier for commuters to book a taxi but also for taxi drivers to get passengers and earn more income through the use of technology, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
"With PicknGo, taxi drivers will hopefully fare better as it will help them to meet the needs of the commuters," Nancy said when launching the application here today.
The application is the outcome of a collaboration of five local taxi companies, namely New Supercab Sdn Bhd, Uptownace (M) Sdn Bhd, Damai Kota Cab Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Pemandu dan Pemilik Teksi Bhd, and Perniagaan Lima Sejati Sdn Bhd.
Nancy said applications such as PicknGo would help the government improve the quality of public transportation in the country.

She added that the government took all aspects of the local taxi industry seriously and was constantly looking at solutions which were fair to all parties.
She said this was part of the Taxi Industry Transformation Programme (TITP) which included issuance of licences or permits to eligible persons and a RM5,000-grant to help them buy new taxis.
Meanwhile, PicknGo executive director Valerie Chan said about 10,000 taxi drivers in the Klang valley will be joining PicknGo.
"All PicknGo taxi drivers are registered and have undergone various training programmes to improve service standards, and vehicles are also insured and constantly inspected," she said.
Chan said PicknGo is also equipped with an SOS button which is connected to the police in times of emergency.
Users of this application can pay for the taxi ride either by cash or online, using debit or credit cards. — Bernama
