26 motorcycles, two cars damaged in fire

    GEORGE TOWN: As many as 26 motorcycles and two cars which were parked behind a motorcycle shop in Jalan Siam were damaged in a fire early this morning.
    Penang Fire and Rescue Department liaison officer Azman Hussin said the fire was reported at 4.30am and four vehicles with 21 firefighters were sent to stop it from spreading to other buildings in the vicinity.
    "When the firefighters arrived at the location, the building was still burning. The firefighters managed to put it out by 6.06am," he said here today.
    The cause of the fire and amount of loss incurred were still being investigated.
    Meanwhile, in a separate development, Azman said a Saudi Arabian national drowned when he fell from the jet ski he was riding near his hotel in Tanjung Bungah here last night.
    The body of Naseer Hudaybar Aloufi, 40, was recovered at 8.15pm along the coastline and was sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem.
    It is understood that he had been staying at the hotel with his family for four days and was due to leave today. — Bernama
