Feud between Guan Eng and Liang intensifies

GEORGE TOWN: The feud between Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) and National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chairman Datuk Liang Teck Meng shows no signs of abating.
Lim questioned why Liang continued to highlight a Dec 23, 2016, Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) letter applying for an increase in water rates.
He said PBAPP had withdrawn the application (in February the next year) after his administration provided the water service provider a soft loan.
He said SPAN had subsequently objected twice after PBAPP withdrew the application to increase water tariffs.
"The state government wants to increase the water conservation surcharge (WCS), not to increase the water tariffs," he said in a press conference today.
Liang, the Gerakan secretary general, had claimed Lim continued to divert the issue after he was challenged to declassify the December letter three weeks ago.
His demand comes after Lim allegedly accused Liang of saying that the federal government wanted Penang to increase water rates inline with other states.
The DAP secretary general however retorted and told Liang to "tell the whole picture and not part of the picture".
On a separate issue, Lim expressed his doubts whether PAS understood the explanation given to the leaders of the party over issues surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) given by CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy.
He said there were many questions which were left unanswered and to PAS to explain how were they satisfied with the explanation.
"I would really question if the PAS delegation knows what Arul Kanda is talking about," he said when the issue was raised in the same press conference.
PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man reportedly said the explanation on the debt of 1MDB and its rationalisation plan was "satisfactory".
