KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to detain more than five officers from the Sabah state government agencies to assist in investigations into a case involving corruption and misconduct.
Sabah MACC director Datuk Sazali Salbi said the group is expected to be detained in a special operation by end of the month before they are brought to the courts to be prosecuted.
He said his officers have devised specific strategies for the operation and are ready to call up several witnesses including family members of the officers.
"By the end of this month, there will be arrests followed by prosecutions in the court for several officers from the state government agencies. I will not name the agency but I can tell you that more than five people will be arrested," he said during the launching ceremony of Jalur Gemilang campaign at the Federal Government Administrative Complex, here today.
The ceremony was officiated by Sabah federal secretary Datuk Nor Rizan Mohd Thani.
Recently, Sazali had reportedly said that two government agencies in Sabah were under the commission's 'radar' after state MACC's officers discovered that there was a basis in their investigations that officers from both agencies were allegedly involved in receiving a huge allocation.
Meanwhile, in PUTRAJAYA, two suspects linked to investigations involving Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) were released by MACC, today.
Both Mohd Zahid Md Arip, a special aide to former Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad, and former FIC chief executive officer Zaid Abdul Jalil, were released following an-eight-day remand.
They were released on bail set at RM200,000 with RM5,000 deposited with two sureties.
Both Zahid and Zaid were arrested on Aug 1 for investigations by the MACC on the purchase of a luxury hotel in Kuching at an inflated rate.
