Woman who stole RM10k bangle from jewellery shop nabbed
KAJANG: A woman who stole a gold bangle worth RM10,000 from a jewellery shop in Bangi Gateway mall, Bandar Baru Bangi on Aug 5 was arrested one day later, according to Police.
Kajang district police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff (pix) said that the suspect, a 28-year-old widower who has a child, was arrested at her residence at Sungai Merab Tua, here on Aug 6 at around 6pm.
He revealed that the suspect has pawned the bangle at a pawn shop in Kajang.
"The suspect, who works as an attendant at a clinic had admitted to pawning the bracelet off at a pawn shop near here (Kajang) for RM6,000," he said in a press conference today.
He said that the lady had used a portion the money to buy items for her house.
"Police had found a balance of RM4,350 from the RM6,000 found in the suspects home. We also have recovered the stolen item from the pawn shop today," he said.
He revealed that the lady in question had no previous criminal records and her urine was negative for drugs.
The suspect's remand ends today and the case is being investigated under section 380 of the penal code for theft.
The suspect had gone into the jewellery shop to enquire about bracelets.
After being shown a bracelet, the suspect pointed at another one and asked to try that one instead.
The sales assistant then returned the first bracelet to the display case before proceeding to calculate the final price on the second one.
CCTV footage, which went viral on social media, showed that the suspect made a dash for the exit with the bracelet in tow.
