Johor Baru-Singapore RTS based on comprehensive study

KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) project and its route is based on a series of discussions and comprehensive studies.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, in a statement, today said it covered technical aspects, alignment and also the viability of the project which has been agreed with the Singapore government.
"We take note of the issues raised by the Sultan of Johor (Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar) and will make an appointment to meet the Sultan immediately once the palace gives the date.
"Malaysia and Singapore will see better connectivity and accessibility with the completion of the RTS project by 2024," he said.
He said apart from linking Johor Baru and Singapore, the project would be able to reduce the congestion at the Causeway and save travel time via station to station connection along with an integrated Customs and Immigration checkpoint.
It was reported that Sultan Ibrahim had earlier welcomed the RTS project but did not agree with the proposed design of the curved rail track and the bridge’s height.
According to the report, he said the bridge’s height would affect the view of the city along the Straits of Johor while its height is impractical, unsustainable and its cost potentially high. — Bernama
