Man jailed 12 years for raping 15-year-old

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years' jail and six strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to raping a Form Three student five years ago at the Kuala Terengganu Sessions court, here, today.
Session judge Rofiah Mohamad meted out the sentence after the man pleaded guilty to the rape charge under Section 376 (2) (d) of the Penal Code.
The accused was charged with raping the victim in a chalet at Kampung Raja, Besut on March 16, 2012.
According to the facts of the case, the accused, who was also the victim's acquaintance, invited the girl for a stroll before taking her to a chalet.
Upon arriving at the chalet, the victim claiming to be tired fell asleep and awoke to find the accused trying to rape her.
Despite attempting to fight back, the victim failed to defend herself. The accused left the victim alone in front of a school near the scene of the crime.The victim then contacted one of her family members for help.
