KUALA LUMPUR: The fate of the two Sea Games athletes who have broken the curfew lies with chef-de-mission Datuk Marina Chin said Khairy Jamaluddin.
The Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin said discipline has to be a priority.
"I leave it to Datuk Marina to ensure this does not repeat. I leave it to Marina to decide," he told reporters at the International Youth Centre today.
Khairy said the explanation from both the athletes have been heard.
"We have accepted their explanation and hopefully this type of incident does not repeat."
Badminton player Goh Soon Huat and female futsal goalkeeper Izwani Azman had violated the curfew as they were not in their rooms by the curfew time at 11.30pm.
Marina has said decision will be taken once the report for Goh is received from Badminton Malaysia (BAM).
BAM's president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said the matter should not be blown up as Goh was still within the hotel's vicinity.
While Izwani has denied that she was dropped from the team for breaking the curfew, but was for her declining performance.
She denied to have broken curfew and said she was in her room by 11.10pm.
Khairy has urged for the monitoring in the camp, Renaissance Hotel, to be stringent to prevent athletes from violating their curfew which is at 11.30pm.
National athletes, more than 700 athletes, have started to check into the Renaissance Hotel since Friday for the games that start next week.
