Mohamad Norza: Don't be too dependent on easy path

KUALA LUMPUR: The national badminton squad has been reminded not to be too dependent on getting an easy passage at the World Badminton Championship and the 29th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur (KL2017).
On the other hand, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria reminded the athletes to always have a strong fighting spirit until the end of their respective contest.
He said the national squad was capable of becoming world champions and winning more than the two gold medals targeted for badminton if they maintain their fighting spirit and did not easily give up.
"I wish to remind that we cannot merely depend on an easy passage but must have an extraordinary fighting spirit. Until we have reached the 21 points, we should never give up.
"I believe we will have two or three world champions from Glasgow and will bring back more than two gold medals at the SEA Games," he said in his speech at the first monthly assembly of BAM at the Malaysian Badminton Academy, Bukit Kiara today.

In another development, Mohamad Norza said that at the World Championship from Aug 21 to 27, national singles champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei would certainly want to become the champion but the chances for the other players could also not be denied.
"This may be Chong Wei's last appearance to clinch the world championship title but it cannot be denied that players like Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing also want to be champions.
"I have spoken to V Shem-Wee Kiong, if they can win the final of championships at the Super Series level, they can also win in the world championships because they are almost similar. They need to improve understanding between them," he said.
On the monthly assembly, Mohamad Norza said he wanted the activity to become a monthly routine as a way of forging closer family ties within the BAM.
He said that through the assembly, BAM could inform about the latest developments besides celebrating the achievements of the athletes in their respective championships.
"We will look for a suitable date for all of us to get together. The assembly will begin with the national anthem "Negaraku" so that they know we all are citizens supporting the national aspiration," he said. – Bernama
