Serving communities across Citi(es)

CITI Malaysia, a leading global bank, commemorated the 12th Global Community Day (GCD) by gathering 5,000 volunteers to execute refurbishment work on nine schools in the country.
COMMUNITY PROJECT
The schools which were fortunate enough to receive a “facelift” were:
1) Methodist Boys School Sentul,
2) La Salle Sentul,
3) Convent Sentul,
4) SMK Sentul Utama,
5) La Salle Brickfields,
6) SMKBangsar and
7) SMK Bandar Utama in the Klang Valley;
8) SK Sri Tanjung in Penang; and
9) SK Sungai Danga in Johor.
Volunteers who so generously gave up their time comprised Citi employees, Citi Foundation grant partners, teachers, students, family members and friends – all who performed a variety of tasks.
In numbers, the “gotong-royong” affair used 2,900 litres of paint, 1,440 brushes and rollers, 1,200 pairs of gloves, 220 buckets and trays to paint more than 70 classrooms, four school blocks, libraries, art and resource rooms and corridors.
CITI COLLECTIVE EFFORT
“We’re delighted with the response towards this year’s Global Community Day Project. Besides the large turnout, it was remarkable to witness the positive collaboration and witness the teamwork among volunteers from all walks of life. It was a collective effort that displayed diversity at its best,” said Citi Malaysia CEO Lee Lung Nien (right,with shovel).
Since the inauguration of GCD in 2006, Citi volunteers have dedicated over three million hours of service towards its global projects.
