IPOH: A teenage mechanic pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here today to attempting to bribe a policeman with RM50 when caught riding a motorcycle without a helmet in April.
Judge S. Indra Nehru, however, fixed Sept 11 to engage a lawyer, obtain probation report and sentencing.
The 18-year-old had offered a RM50 bribe to Lance Corporal Mohd Farid Ahmad who was on duty at the Pangkor police station to refrain taking action against him for riding a motorcycle without a helmet.
He committed the offence in front of Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Hwa Lian, Pasir Bongak, Pangkor about 2pm on April 18.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's deputy public prosecutor, Nurul Wahida Jalaluddin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
Indra Nehru set bail at RM5,000 in one surety.
The teenager was ordered to surrender his passport to the court. — Bernama
