KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) celebrated its 15th anniversary today, signifying 15 years of excellence in education, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
"The milestone has great significance for those who worked tirelessly to turn the vision into a reality. It is only appropriate that thank Utar president, Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik ... I feel very heartened to see him still contributing to the university and leading several charity projects.
"Tun Dr Ling was the instrumental in setting up Utar," he said at Utar's 15th anniversary celebration at its campus in Sungai Long, near here today.
Also present were Utar chancellor Dr Ling and Utar president Datuk Dr Chuah Hean Teik.
Liow said Utar was now considered as one of the reputable leading universities in Malaysia with a total enrolment of 26,000 students, a great leap from its initial intake of 411 students in 2002.
"Utar was placed in the top 120 by the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2017 and was ranked top 150 in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2017, apart from that Utar has also been awarded self accreditation status by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) of Ministry of Higher Education earlier this year," Liow said.
Since 2005, Utar has been operating in two permanent campuses in Kampar, Perak and in Sungai Long, Selangor, he said.
Liow said MCA would continue to lend support to Utar for the provision of quality and affordable higher education as the party shared the same views with the university in contributing towards the community and nation in the provision of quality education for the youths in meeting the human resource needs of the country.
He hoped Utar would continue to grow and become a great university to be at par with the best, not only in Malaysia but also internationally. — Bernama
