254 flood victims evacuated to relief centres

MALACCA: A total of 245 flood victims from 64 families are placed at three relief centres in Malacca Tengah district as of 10.30am today.
Malacca State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali said the relief centres were open following heavy rain from 2am until 6am, which caused floods in several areas.
"Some 198 people from 50 families are evacuated to the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Munsyi Abdulah relief centre in Batu Berendam, 33 people from six families to the Rural Transformation Centre relief centre and 23 people from eight families are staying at the Peringit Community Hall," he told reporters here today.
He said the victims are residents from Kampung Batu Hampar, Kampung Pulau Kelapa, Kampung Sungai Putat, Taman Bukit Beruang Bistari, Taman Melawis Bukit Beruang and Kampung Bukit Pulau. — Bernama
