MACC nabs six over bribe-for-loan case

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has nabbed six people, including a sales advisor from a financial institution in Skudai, for allegedly receiving bribes amounting to RM50,000 over a personal loan application by a teacher.
They were arrested in Johor Baru, and Rompin in Pahang on Wednesday and Thursday.
The six had allegedly asked for the amount to facilitate approval of the teacher's personal loan of RM190,000.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 that provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and a fine of up to five times the bribe amount.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the case and said investigations are ongoing.
