Five-day remand order obtained against Phee and two others

GEORGE TOWN: The Magistrate's Court today granted a five-day remand order against Penang executive councillor Phee Boon Poh to facilitate investigations into an illegal carbon filters factory at Sungai Lembu, Bukit Mertajam.
Also remanded were a father and son duo who are the manager and director of the illegal factory.
Penang High Court assistant Registrar Ameera Mastura granted the remand application submitted by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Ghazali Muhamad Nazri.
Phee, 66 and the other two suspects who were clad in an orange MACC lock-up t-shirt and handcuffed, were brought to the Penang High Court Complex by MACC officers.
About 100 supporters gathered outside Penang High Court to show their solidarity to Phee, shouted "Sokong Boon Poh" when he arrived at the court at about 10.10am.
Also present were Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who arrived at the Penang High Court Complex at about 10.20am.
Among others who were present were state executive councillors and Pakatan Harapan supporters from PKR, Amanah and Bersatu.
theSun learnt that MACC had initially requested a seven-day remand order for all of the suspects but it was objected by the suspect's counsels
R.S.N. Rayer and Ramkarpal Singh, appeared for Phee while Dev Kumaraendran, and V. Parthipan, represented the father-son duo.
All suspects will be investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
The Sungai Puyu state assemblyman was detained after giving his statement at the MACC headquarters at 2.40pm yesterday.
The arrest was believed to be in connection with an illegal factory which produces carbon filters at Sungai Lembu, Bukit Mertajam that was raided by multiple agencies led by the MACC, on Thursday.
