Agong: Rotu officers must have courage to uphold the truth

SHAH ALAM: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V said Reserve Officers Training Unit (Rotu) officers must have the courage to uphold the truth in uplifting the dignity of the armed forces.
He said as military officers, they should also always be positive, while striving to improve themselves and be gracious in accepting criticisms.
"I hope the graduates who have been instilled with the military service values through Rotu military exercises will be able to add value to the nation and race.
"Efforts should further be enhanced to attract more undergraduates of various races to participate in the programme in order to promote a strong espirit de corps," he said here today.
Sultan Muhammad V as Supreme Commander of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), said this at the 36th Royal Commissioning of Public University Rotu Cadet Officers at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam here today.

Also present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharom and UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said.
Sultan Muhammad V said the Rotu programme introduced since the 1980s was seen to have promoted the spirit of patriotism among the participants who were mostly public universities' students.
As such, he said the should be empowered and efforts to improve the programme should be initiated especially by the Defence and Higher Education Ministries.
"This programme should also be supported and implemented more effectively as it helps the higher learning institutions to produce knowledgeable students with good character," he added.
The ceremony today saw the commissioning of 1,832 Rotu Cadet Officers representing the Territorial Army Corps, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Reserve and Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Reserves corps from 18 public universities nationwide. — Bernama
