GELANG PATAH: MCA Youth has a responsibility towards ensuring the people have the right perception about the party and the government said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA deputy president said the opposition had, through the use of social media, created a twisted image of the party and the government.
"Their messages have given the party and the government a negative perception in the minds of the youths especially with claims that the previous polls are unfair.
"We have the job to uncover the opposition's inconsistency and refute those claims to restore the people's confidence in the government," he said today while opening the Johor MCA Youth annual general meeting here.
On the next general election, Wee said seat allocation would not be a big issue in Johor, and predicated Pakatan Harapan will have more problems than the BN component parties in the state.
He said, MCA will field a candidate in the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat and wanted to win back the seat currently held by DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.
In the 13th general election, the Gelang Patah seat was contested by then Johor mentri besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman who lost to Lim.
“We want MCA youth to organise more activities to stay relevant to the local community in the area,” he said.
He said, under the Barisan National spirit, MCA would return the Skudai state assembly seat to Gerakan. Currently, the Skudai state assemblyman is Dr Boo Cheng Hau from DAP.
In the GE13, Johor MCA had contested seven parliamentary and sixteen state seats, and won four parliamentary seats – Air Hitam, Tebrau, Tanjung Piai and Labis – and two state seats, Pulai Sepatang and Paloh state constituencies.
Johor has 26 parliamentary and 56 state seats. It is expected the Johor MCA would contest eight parliamentary and fifteen state seats in the upcoming GE.
