BUTTERWORTH: Two officers from the Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) were summoned by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in the investigation of an illegal carbon filters factory at Sungai Lembu in Bukit Mertajam.
MPSP president Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the two officers were Licensing Department director Mohd Faidrol Radzi and Enforcement Department Director Nazri Abdul Wahab.
"Both had their statements recorded by the MACC on Friday," he said before launching the 2017 Butterworth Fringe Festival at Jalan Jeti Lama today.
Rozali added the council will let the MACC conduct it's investigation before taking any action on the two officers.
He also revealed that no stop work order or notice to shut down the factory has been sent pending investigations by the MACC.
On why no action has been taken earlier as the factory was deemed illegal, Rozali declined to comment.
Early today state environment committee chairman Phee Boon Poh were remanded for five days starting today.
He was remanded along with the manager and director of the illegal factory.
On Thursday, multiple agencies led by the MACC raided the factory following complaints by nearby villagers alleging that the factory which produced carbon filters posed a health hazard to the area.
