MACC seizes bauxite stockpiles in Pahang

KUALA LUMPUR: In the continued war against the illegal mining of bauxite, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have seized all bauxite stockpiles in Pahang to stop it from being brought out of the state for commercial or any other purposes.
The seizure was done in accordance with section 33 of the MACC act 2009 and any parties who do not adhere to the seizure notice will be charged under section 69 of the same act.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki said that there are 10 million metric tonnes of bauxite that have been mined and kept as stockpiles at a few locations in Pahang.
"We also had discussions with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) and suggested that they reevaluate their approved permits (AP) to bauxite mine operators and also to cancel all AP's given out before this," he said in a statement today.
He added that the MACC is monitoring bauxite exports in Kuantan as well.
