Santokh Singh urges Malaysians to remain united

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysian football legend Datuk Santokh Singh has urged Malaysians to remain united.
He said there was still unity in the nation but that needed to be preserved and strengthen for future generations.
The feeling of unity was strongest for him when he played football for Selangor and the national team in the 1970s and 1980s.
Playing in a football team with players of all ethnicity was a highlight in his more than 10-year career.
He said the roar and cheer from the crowd during international matches at the Merdeka Stadium showed the people were together.
"When we won, the unity of Malaysians reached the highest level, the cheers from the crowd was fantastic,” he said in a “Unity In Our Eyes” dialogue session today.
The session was organised by Projek57, a social enterprise founded by Syed Sadiq and Collin Swee in August 2015 to promote unity in Malaysia.
Both have just completed their Unity Ride on bicycles through peninsular Malaysia and their ride across Sabah and Sarawak will begin in September this year.
Swee said there was still hope for a united Malaysia and hoped that their journey will inspire others to remain together.
“People need to be reminded about unity, to restore what Malaysia possessed before,” he added.
