Shed 'arrogant image': Tengku Adnan

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Barisan Nasional needs to shed its supposed "arrogant image" if it wants to regain the state, said Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
"Why did we lose seats that we had held for more than four terms in one go? Perhaps we were too arrogant, perhaps we were too full of ourselves.
"Some of us have to stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking of working together for the greater good," he said during his speech at the opening of the Petaling Jaya Utara Umno division meeting in Ara Damansara, here, today.
Also present during the event were Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim.
Calling on all BN component parties to cooperate with each other, the Tengku Adnan, who is Putrajaya MP, advised Umno delegates at the meeting to also approach the Chinese and Indian community to win over votes as he opined that they would have better trust in Umno at present than BN component parties.
"We lost in the past because we had problems with everyone.
"We had problems with Indians because of the demolishing of temples in the state, we had problems with the Chinese and even Malays. We had problems with state civil servants by giving them a broom as an award for poor service," he said referring to the pre-2008 BN state administration under Dr Khir Toyo.
Tengku Adnan also called on Selangor BN machinery to counter perception on national sovereign fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), saying that the issue had already been resolved.
"The Opposition's bad perception has confused the rakyat. As such we must step in to clear the confusion," he added.
