SHAH ALAM: Mersing Industrial Training Institute (ILP Mersing) won the Green Earth Autonomous Robot award in the National Robot Challenge at the Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training today.
Lecturer Mohd Shahrul Nizam, who is ILP Mersing team manager, said of the category his team participated was the toughest of three categories. The other two categories were Autonomous Sumo Robot and Robot Roborumblez.
Mohd Saimi Md Yatim, a participating tutor from the winning team, said what made their victory more memorable was that there was no course on robotics at ILP.
"Even though we have no related robotic studies in our institution, we have learnt a minor part of micro processing in our telecommunication studies. That helps us to construct a robot," he said.
Fellow tutor Haizan Hussein said the competition was different from others because tutors were also able to participate as well, not just students.
Almost 200 participants from 29 public and private institutions took part in the challenge by submitting 62 entries.
