KLCH mulls requiring premises owners to fly Jalur Gemilang

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (KLCH) is studying the possibility of making it compulsory for owners of premises in the federal capital to fly the Jalur Gemilang (national flag), at their respective premises as a new condition for license application.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said he was looking at the matter as an initiative to foster patriotism among the city dwellers.
With only 18 days left until the 60th National Day celebration, there were many premises owners and those in housing estates here had yet to fly the Jalur Gemilang, he said.
"I don't understand why they are being so reluctant to fly Jalur Gemilang as it symbolises our country," he told reporters after launching the KLCH "Fly the Jalur Gemilang" campaign here today.
Mhd Amin also said that KLCH had issued a notice last week, asking all owners and managers of building premises to fly Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the Merdeka Day.
The KLCH has also placed more than 2,000 national flags around the federal capital and a total of 55,000 Jalur Gemilang will be distributed to government organisations, private companies, non-governmental organisations and schools beginning today. — Bernama
