GOPENG: More than 5,000 species of orchids and 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables will be sold at the 2017 Fruit, Flower and Food Fiesta (4F) programme to be organised by the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) here for four days from Aug 24.
Fama deputy director-general Mansor Omar said the programme would take place at the Gopeng Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) in conjunction with the national month celebration.
Sale of ornamental fish and pets, popular foods of the state, local salad (ulam-ulaman) as well as floriculture and landscape products are on the programme besides various useful events to be held for visitors.
"In fact, the items will be sold at special prices with 50 to 70 per cent lesser than the market price," he said at a press conference at the 4F programme pre-launching ceremony, here today.
Starting from 10am to 10pm, the 4F programme, also known as Famafest, is expected to be visited by more than 200,000 visitors from all over the country in addition to international visitors.
Mansor said the programme would also hold seminars and entrepreneurship workshops and religious programmes including religious lectures by renowned speaker, Datuk Mohd Kazim Elias or better known as Ustaz Kazim.
"Local celebrities like Fauzi Nawawi and Datuk Seri Vida will also sell their products," he said.
He said visitors could also enjoy a wide range of local popular foods that are divided into four concepts, namely hipster food, tural food (on the social media sites), nostalgia product and foodgasm.
"This is one of the attractions where visitors can easily find the food items on social media sites of the programme, especially the popular products in Perak," he said.
Mansor said among the objectives of the programme was to create a marketing network, especially for entrepreneurs, farmers, wholesalers, exporters and retailers as well as to further expand the local agro-food product market.
"Through this programme, the public can see Fama's role in marketing quality agricultural products at affordable prices as well as enhancing entrepreneurial levels and attracting young entrepreneurs to venture into agricultural marketing," he said.
Mansor said they were targeting sales to reach RM2 million during the programme. — Bernama
