KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two suspects in the video that went viral of a mango thief and his accomplice threatening to rape the woman they had stolen the fruits from.
Sentul district police chief ACP R. Munusamy said the incident took place at Taman Wahyu in Sentul on Aug 12 when a teacher had claimed that a mango thief threatened to rape her and burn down her house after she confronted him and an accomplice for stealing her mangoes.
"She posted video clips of the men plucking mangoes from outside her house and the video had gone viral in social media," he said in a statement yesterday.
Munusamy said two suspects involved in the incident were picked up yesterday.
"Police have seized a motorbike, four mangoes and a motorbike lock," he added.
The suspects have been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
On Monday, theSun reported that the victim said one of the thieves threw some of the mangoes at her before fleeing on a motorcycle.
One of them, clad in a blue T-shirt and red cap, taunted her and challenged her to call the police.
He claimed he "knew" somebody in the police department.
