PETALING JAYA: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has suspended the e-hailing driver who allegedly assaulted his passenger over a misunderstanding.
In expressing their regret over the incident, the commission said they had barred the driver concerned from operating under the e-hailing app and also from migrating to other e-hailing systems, pending the completion of investigations by the police, to ensure the safety of passengers.
"We will not tolerate any form of crime and misconduct by land public transport drivers and operators, and we will ensure that a swift penalty is imposed to eradicate such behaviour," the commission said in a statement.
In the incident on Sunday, the driver had allegedly assaulted a teenage passenger over a quarrel which was triggered due to a misunderstanding between the two.
The suspect, who has been operating under the e-hailing service for the past two years, was arrested following the incident, and his remand order expires today (Wednesday).
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
