Couple among 34 detained in 'Operasi Perdana'

KANGAR: A married couple who were released from prison about five months ago for a drug offence was among 34 suspected drug addicts detained by the Perlis National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in a two-day operation codenamed ' Operasi Perdana Bil 1/2017' which ended Monday.
Perlis AADK director Azizah Ahmad said the couple, aged 25 and 23, were apprehended at a dilapidated house in Kampung Tanah Timbul, Kuala Sanglang, Monday morning.
She said the woman was five months pregnant with their third child and tested positive for methamphetamine.
"In the house was the woman's mother, who was taking care of the couple's two children, aged one and two years, and three other children, aged between two and four, " she told a press conference here today.
According to Azizah, the children's case had been referred to the Social Welfare Department for further action.
She said 32 others who were detained in the operation included a 15-year-old boy.
The operation, which involved the Border Control Agency (Aksem), Immigration Department, National Registration Department and the Civil Defence Force, targetted fishing settlements such as Kuala Perlis and Kuala Sanglang, she said. — Bernama
