MALACCA: The Malacca state government and the Malaysian Foundation for Innovation (YIM) are collaborating on developing garbage-free towns through the implementation of the iCycle Dry Waste Disposal System.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the iCycle system which adopts the "from waste to reward" concept was implemented as an innovative solution to address the problem of waste disposal at the source.
He said the move would educate the public to practice environmental protection more effectively as well as encourage the public to separate solid waste thus maintaining Malacca's status as a green technology city state.
"Local residents who dispose their recyclable waste into special bins or iCycle bins will indirectly collect points and they may redeem the points for cash or other necessities.
"There are 36 types of recyclable dry goods which can be divided into eight categories namely bulbs, metals, plastics, paper, computer products, electrical appliances, food and beverage containers," he told a press conference after witnessing the signing of a joint-venture agreement between the two parties at the Seri Negri Complex, Ayer Keroh here today.
Malacca Housing Board executive director Saleh Mohd Dom and YIM chief executive officer Tany Anthony Kiob signed the agreement for the system to be implemented at the Krubong People's Housing Project (PPR) here and Tehel PPR in Jasin. — Bernama
