Police question women activists over peaceful march last year

KUALA LUMPUR: Two women activists were questioned at the Dang Wangi police headquarters as part of an investigation into a peaceful assembly which took place in November last year.
The activists, Ivy Josiah and All Women's Action Society (Awam) former president Ho Yock Lin were questioned for three hours since 2pm.
Lawyers Honey Tan Lay Ean represented Josiah, while Firdaus Husni defended Ho.
When met by the press here, Ho said they had been called on Aug 8 for questioning.
"It is strange for them to call us after nine months," she said.
Their lawyers said that the activists had been called in for questioning in relation to the event on Nov 23, where they together with some 300 people joined a 1km walk from Padang Merbok to Parliament.
The move was a demand for the government to release electoral watchdog Bersih chairman Maria Chin Abdullah who had been detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) for organising the Bersih 5 rally.
Maria had been arrested on Nov 18 on the eve of the Bersih 5 public rally.
Earlier, some 30 supporters were seen standing outside in solidarity with the two women.
