Car plunges from top of Genting Highlands carpark

GENTING HIGHLANDS: A motorist and his passenger were killed instantly when a car they were in plunged from the upper floor carpark of a hotel in Genting Highlands here early today.
The 50-year-old driver of a Perodua Axia identified as V.Palanisamy from Sungei Pelek, Sepang and his 43-year-old female passenger, a Chinese tourist identified as Ming Sanmao were pronounced dead at a clinic they were taken to at the highlands resort.
Bentong police chief Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohamad Nor said the accident occurred when Palanisamy was driving out of the carpark with Ming at about 4.15am.
He said the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle while coming down a ramp. Mohamad Mansor said the car crashed through a safety metal barrier at a curve before plunging 13 metres.
He said the badly damaged vehicle landed on its roof at a small recreational area on the ground next to the hotel.
Police and rescue personnel were at the scene to save the victims within minutes but they were found unconscious.
Mohamad Mansor said investigations on the cause of the accident is ongoing but preliminary findings show that the driver was allegedly negligent in controlling the vehicle.
When contacted by theSun, a Resorts World spokesperson declined to comment on the matter as the accident was under the purview of the police.
