PADANG TERAP: The federal government has approved an allocation of RM20 million for the implementation of "My New School" programme at four primary schools in the country this year.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid named the schools as Sekolah Kebangsaan Paya Rawa, Kedah; Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Yam, Selangor; Sekolah Kebangsaan Selandar, Malacca, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Acheh, Pahang, each getting an allocation of RM5 million.
He said the allocation was provided to enable the schools concerned to become community centres for the local community.
He said the programme, carried out under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS), was introduced to maximise the use of the school resources.
"The My New School programme was introduced last year and has been implemented in Sabah and Sarawak, and now we are adding more schools to the programme," he said after launching the programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Datin Fatimah, Pedu, here today.
He said the programme would also be carried at four more schools, each in Kedah, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, and Pahang, involving an allocation of RM7.5 million which had yet to be approved.
Through this programme, we hope the local community could use the schools as a hub for them to organise activities, he added. — Bernama
