SEPANG: Thailand confidently boasted that they will defend the gold medal in women's football at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017).
Thailand women's football team assistant coach Worasing Somakate said he was not worried about defending the gold because his team had been training for a long time.
"We know the potential of our team. We are not worried because we have been training for a long time for the SEA Games," he told reporters after the team's arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here, today.
Worasing added that the team for KL2017 was formed from different styles of play and teams after a previous World Cup Qualifiers match.
Thailand clinched the women's football gold in the 2013 Myanmar SEA Games.
However, they could not compete in the 2015 Singapore SEA Games as women's football was not on offer.
KL2017 will be held from Aug 19 to 30 with 404 events across 38 sports.
The women's football competition kicks off on Aug 15 at the UM Arena Stadium in Kuala Lumpur where Thailand will meet Myanmar. — Bernama
