KUANTAN: Leaders and academicians have been urged to set aside their positions and titles to come together to look for ways to build and unite Muslims in the country.
The Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said titles and academic achievements were meaningless if there was no solidarity among the Malays which would have an effect on Islam.
"By right, academicians and professionals should play a role, depending on their expertise and abilities, to do charity work, contribute their energy and opinions for the unity of Muslims in the country," he said at the opening of the Conference of Pahang Academicians and Professionals today.
The programme was organised by the National Dakwah Council (MDN) together with Pahang Foundation and Kolej Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (KUIPSAS) and attended by 250 participants from government and non-governmental organisations.
Also present were Pahang Mentri Besar Pahang Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Deputy President of the Pahang Council of Religion and Malay Customs (MUIP) Datuk Seri Wan Abdul Wahid Wan Hassan, and MDN Chairman Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohmood Zuhdi Ab Majid.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahmood Zuhdi said the objective of the programme was to draw up strategic plans on three main aspects, namely education, economy and socio-culture, for the benefit of the people in the country. — Bernama
