KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) has the chance to wrest back the Lembah Pantai Parliamentary constituency following the party's ongoing efforts being carried out for the wellbeing of the people.
Umno Wanita chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said, as a result of these efforts, the people in the constituency had returned to support the BN.
"Through the development and programmes conducted in the Federal Territory, I expect the chances of BN recapturing Lembah Pantai is very bright as there are already signs that the support by the people at the grassroot level here is returning to the BN," she said.
She was speaking to reporters after opening the Lembah Pantai Umno Division Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri Delegates Conference here today.
Also present were Lembah Pantai Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, its vice chief Mohamad Abdullah, Pemuda chief Mohd Nazri Abdul Rahman and Puteri chief Norsyahidah Hanim Mohd Salehuddin.
Shahrizat said according to a census on the voters' mentality conducted by Wanita Umno, the majority of the Lembah Pantai residents were disappointed with their elected representative Nurul Izzah Anwar for allegedly rarely visiting the constituency to meet and help them.
She also described Nurul Izzah as a 'social media leader' who did not care about the problems of the people in her constituency.
"The people are questioning the contribution of their elected representative who is only busy with the social media, talking only as an 'arm chair' elected representative despite holding the seat for two terms.
"If she does turn up, it is only symbolic. Takes photos and uploads on social media and then leaves. As a former three-term MP here (Lembah Pantai), I want to ask since when the development in Lembah Pantai started and under the opposition (administration) what development has been carried out" she said.
Meanwhile, Raja Nong Chik said he would submit to the Umno leadership that Shahrizat contest in any seats in the country in the 14th general election as she represented 1.3 million Wanita Umno members in Malaysia. — Bernama
