PEKAN, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah is excited that her design of the woven cloth Tenun Pahang Diraja was selected by Sultan of Johor’s daughter Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Ibrahim to wear on her wedding day.
Tunku Azizah said Tunku Aminah’s willingness to wear two ‘baju kurung’ made from the Tenun Pahang Diraja cloth during the ‘persandingan’ and ‘adat bersiram’ ceremonies were even more special because of their family ties.
She said she had not expected Tunku Aminah to select the cloth made by the inmates of the Penor Prison in Kuantan here as she gave it as a wedding present.
“When Mina (Tunku Aminah) told me she wanted to get married in August, I said I will give her the woven cloth...I did not expect her to wear what I had myself designed for the bersanding and bersiram.
"To me, this is a recognition and an honour to those of us involve with Tenun Pahang Diraja. I did not expect my niece to wear it,” she said.

Tun Aminah, 31, married Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, 28, on Aug 14 at the Istana Bukit Serene, Johor Bahru and the ‘baju kurung’ she wore drew praises from netizens.

Tunku Azizah said the effort to preserve Tenun Pahang Diraja required cooperation from all parties.
“Pahang does not have anything else. We do not have songket or batik. But we have tenun which has been in Pahang for 300 years, and if we are not careful, it will die off,” she added.
