KUANTAN: More than 200 residents of Taman Kempadang Jaya here came up with their own way of expressing their love for the country during the month of independence.
With the National Day celebrations on Aug 31 just around the corner, they organised the Zone Four Independence Month programme with activities centred on the theme of independence and a love for the country.
One event involved children wearing clothes with the Malaysian flag, a bicycle-decoration competition and a colouring contest.
A resident, Ramlah Abdul Majid, 35, said she made a dress using the Malaysian flag for her daughter, Intan Nur Zulaikha Sham Sohaimi, five, adding, "... all the hard work was worth it when I saw her smile today".
"My daughter and I are excited to be a part of the independence day
celebrations this year," she said.
Speaking to reporters, she said her daughter could not stop smiling since she put on the dress, and the event made her better understand the meaning of independence and love for the country.
Another resident, Zaleha Mat Yassin, 36, said she had never celebrated independence month like this year, with her family, and this time, they were all rooting for her daughter, Nadia Mokhtar, eight, who had entered the colouring contest.
According to Zone Four Residents Representative Committee chairman Abdul Yazid Mohamed, the main objective of the programme was to celebrate National Day and foster closer ties among the residents there. — Bernama
