MTV'S iconic Unplugged series, which featured intimate, acoustic performances from Nirvana, Eric Clapton and more, is getting a reboot that will begin airing this fall.
Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes will be in the spotlight for the first instalment of the new Unplugged, which is due to premiere Sept 8. Mendes's sophomore album Illuminate debuted at the top of the US Billboard chart, and he is nominated in the Best Pop categories for this year's MTV VMAs.
Future shows will feature "an eclectic, superstar lineup of global pop culture artists," according to MTV.
MTV Unplugged debuted in 1989 and has featured performances by Jay-Z, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Adele and more. In the new version of the franchise, performances will take place in locations around the US that "hold special meaning to each artist."
